Type of fabrics and their use to manufacture clothes

Fabrics have been used for thousands of years by man with different purposes such as protecting from environment, to get dressed or to substitute the skins they used to cover their bodies, and nowadays fabrics have many more uses such as manufacture of clothes, blankets, coverlets and many different articles to protect us, our home and even cars.

At the beginning fabrics were composed from natural materials, such as wool, and plants such as linen and cotton, and they were not dyed, as there were only a few countries that knew dying methods, such as China, but once the world started knowing more about tints, the variety of colors on fabrics increased.

“Fabrics have been evolving really fast; nowadays, there are many different type of fabrics that can be used to manufacture clothes, many persons are constantly looking for new alternatives to wear, and as manufacturers, we, at Grupo Denim, try to find those new options that customers are looking for”, said Salomon Juan Marcos Villarreal, president of this company.

The different type of fabrics can be classified by different criteria, for the type of material used to produce them, type of weave or their animal or vegetable origin:

  • Vegetable fabrics – These are known as the fabrics manufactured with threads that are product of vegetal fibers, such as linen, cotton, hemp or jute, among many other.
  • Animal fabrics – Are those fabrics manufactured with threads coming from animals, such as wool (from alpaca or lamb) and silk (produced by worm larvae) and some other type of furs that are interwoven to create fabrics.
  • Artificial fabrics – They are made with synthetic fibers, such as nylon, polyester, Lycra, among many others.

“Manufacturers are always seeking for different fabrics that offer more resistance, that can be easy to handle and above all, that are comfortable for the final consumer”, added Salomon Juan Marcos Villarreal about this topic.
