Duck Cloth

What is Duck Cloth?

Cotton duck –  (from Dutch doek,”linen canvas”), also simply duck, sometimes duck cloth or duck canvas, commonly called “canvas” outside the textile industry, is a heavy, plain woven cotton fabric. There is also linen duck, which is less often used. Duck is used in a wide range of applications, from sneakers to over tents to sandbags. Duck fabric is woven with 2 yarns together in the warp and a single yarn in the weft.

By far the most popular workwear fabric, cotton duck is a weighty, plain-but-strong woven canvas. Despite its name, this hardy workwear fabric has nothing to do with waterfowl or their feathers. The term “duck” comes from the Dutch word doek, which refers to a linen canvas once used for sailors’ white trousers and outerwear. The word “cotton” has been added to modern duck items simply to distinguish them from traditional linen duck. Interestingly enough, though, cotton duck is related to another type of work-ready duck. Duct tape, often called “duck tape,” was originally manufactured by adding an adhesive backing to regular cotton duck.

You’ve heard the expression “tougher than nails.” Well, cotton duck may be “tougher than sails.” The same general type of canvas duck used for many work clothes has often been used for traditional boat sails, since the thick cotton weave is incredibly resistant to tearing and rough wear.

Usually offered in drab colors like unbleached white, tan, and shades of brown or green, cotton duck work clothes never look very dirty even when they are.

The advantages of cotton duck workwear fabric are many. For example:

  • It has a relatively smooth surface that isn’t prone to snagging and tearing.
  • It is probably second only to leather in the class of true workwear fabrics in its ability to block the wind (which can be more important than anything on a blustery winter jobsite).
  • It is somewhat burn-resistant, albeit still certainly flammable. If you’re sleeping by a campfire or welding in the shop, a few small sparks or hot ashes won’t ruin the fabric, unlike nylon or other synthetics that end up with tiny pinholes everywhere in the same situation.
  • It may feel stiff and uncomfortable at first, but after being washed and worn a few times should feel quite comfortable.

This workwear fabric is also found in four-walled tents, shoes and sand bags added Salomón Juan Marcos Villarreal, president of Grupo Denim.

Bad Habits You Can Drop Today to become ultra successful

Bad Habits You Can Drop Today to Become Ultra-Successful

7 Bad Habits You Can Drop Today to Become Ultra-Successful

These bad habits can creep up on anyone. Learn how you can eliminate them and boost your success.

The internet is chock full of advice on which habits will boost your success–in the morning, nighttime, and anywhere in between.

To boost your success, below are some bad habits that I suggest you drop to make your way to the top:

Thinking of failure as a bad thing

When you redefine failure, you’re learning what does and does not work throughout your career. The important thing is to make sure that you actually learn from your mistakes, rather than repeating them time and time again.

Saying “Yes” to everything

To start, turn up your turn down skills: creating a polite, default response such as, “I’d love to help you out, but I ‘m honestly too busy,” will ensure that you maintain a semblance of a normal workload and prevent tasks from falling to the wayside.

Comparing yourself to others

Comparing that to someone else’s skill blueprint is a waste of time and drain on your success.

Believing in scarcity

A scarcity mindset is the belief that there’s only so much success to go around. In this age of hyper-competitiveness, thinking that someone else’s victory “steals” from your own success creeps on almost everyone.

Not setting the right goals

If you don’t set concrete goals towards your Genius Zone, then you are unable to channel your energy towards tasks that are leading towards success.

Being set in stone

Being determined and motivated is great. But don’t fall into the trap of mistaking determination for an unwillingness to change.

Believing self-doubt

Even when all the signs are pointing towards success, insecurity can easily kill your dreams. In fact, it’s so prevalent (especially with successful people), that it’s a full-blown condition known as impostor syndrome.

I can attest that the right habits will do wonders. However, the thing about habits is that they’re so ingrained in our minds and so routine that we barely notice them. That’s why many people, even some of the best entrepreneurs, are also stuck with habits that are creeping into their success commented Salomón Juan Marcos Villarreal, president of Grupo Denim.

Payment Plans

Payment Plans

Three Ways to Use Payment Plans to Get Paid Faster

It’s a few days before payroll is due, and you have three outstanding invoices over a week late.  One customer has promised that their check is in the mail, another customer asked to postpone their payment a week until their paycheck clears their account, and the third customer hasn’t returned a phone call or email in two weeks.  These scenarios are common for a small business owner, but the good news is that there are ways to help mitigate late payment issues.  Automatic recurring schedules aren’t just useful for your gym membership or car payments anymore; businesses in various spaces see the benefits of automatic payments.  Here are three things you need to know to make the switch to payment plans and get paid faster.

Get Authorization

Whether a customer is paying from their bank account or a credit card, valid authorization must be obtained prior to the first scheduled payment.  There are a few ways to have your customer authorize a recurring payment schedule – physically sign a form, authorize electronically, or complete an overriding contract/agreement.  Once you have a signed authorization from your customer, you can enter the schedule.

Set Reminders

Once you’ve set up a schedule with your customer, it’s a good idea to send them a recap of when they’ll be seeing debits from your business.  Whether it’s an email or a letter, you should make sure your customer has a copy of the terms they agreed to so they can reference at any time.  This should also help cut back on any future disputes or claims that a payment wasn’t authorized, and your business will also want to keep a copy of the agreement on hand for reference.

Flexibility is Key

One of the perks of using automatic payments is that you can project your deposits and know how much cash you will have available at different times.  However, sometimes unexpected financial issues can hit someone right about the time their invoice to your business is due.

Most importantly, no business can be successful without their customers; why not help make the way they pay your business as hassle-free as possible added Salomón Juan Marcos Villarreal, president of Grupo Denim.

Bleach your denim shorts

Bleach your denim shorts

How to bleach your denim shorts

You probably have a pair of denim shorts that you love, but you want to give them a different look this year, well, we will share some interesting tips with you so you can bleach your shorts and make them seem as a completely different pair.

“One of the greatest advantages of clothes made of denim is that you can give them new life by bleaching them, adding destruction or different trims or even dying them in different colors, or even recycling the garments and give them new uses, that is why many people prefers this fabric”, said Salomon Juan Marcos Villarreal, president of Grupo Denim, a jeans manufacturer in Mexico.

Here are the steps you will need to follow to bleach your denim shorts:

  1. Place an old towel under your shorts, make sure you place a bag inside of your shorts, that way denim will not absorb the bleach at the front and back parts of your garment.
  2. Pour some liquid bleach in a plastic well, do not use a metal one or the bleach will cause a chemical reaction when it touches the metal.
  3. Put on your plastic washes and put a sponge within the bleach.
  4. Use the sponge to create bleach designs over your shorts.
  5. Wash your denim shorts in a cold wash cycle; remember not to get any other garments into the wash machine.
  6. Let your denim shorts dry.
  7. If you want to create a dramatic look, you can repeat the above steps after the first wash cycle.
  8. Remember not to let the bleach for too long on your garments, or it will eat up the fibers.

“Many people is choosing denim garments over clothes made of any other materials as it allows them to make their own creations, letting them give their own styles to the clothes they wear everyday”, added Salomon Juan Marcos Villarreal.

Dress Well

How To Dress Well

How To Dress Well

Well dressed people appear more confident, attractive and put-together than badly dressed people. Give a good first impression for an interview, first meeting, date or any occasion in life by learning how to dress well.

  1. Wear the color that suits you best. Wear pastel colors like baby blue if you are fair-skinned, dark colors like navy or black if you are olive-skinned and bright colors if you have dark skin. Color that compliments skin tone can make a person appear fresher.
  2. Watch out for trends and fashions. Look through magazines, watch television and keep an eye on celebrities to stay updated on clothing styles.
  3. Dress well with clothes that fit. Avoid wearing clothes that are baggy, tight, too short or too long. Wearing tight clothing will emphasize bulges and imperfections. Dress well by wearing clothing that fits perfectly.
  4. Wear the right clothes for the occasion and weather. Make outfits based on the weather and plans for the day. If it is hot, wear a pair of shorts with a T-shirt. Sweaters and coats should be worn during cold, winter weather. Wear formal clothing like tuxedos to events like weddings, dates or funerals.
  5. Accessorize outfits. Make outfits look better by accessorizing jewelry and hats. Coordinating accessories with the right outfit will make someone look like he knows how to dress well. Wear a watch, baseball cap or any accessory to improve outfits.
  6. Match clothes. Do not pair odd clothes together. Bright patterns and bold colors should be paired with subtle clothing. For example, match printed shorts with a solid color T-shirt. Wearing a mix of several patterns will not make a person look well dressed.
  7. Check clothing for loose threads, wrinkles and holes. Never wear clothing that has holes and stains on it. Wearing clothing with wrinkles, stains and holes will make a person look lazy, disheveled and very badly dressed. Cut loose threads and iron creases.

“Attire is one of the first things noticed on a person; the first impression is long-lasting, that is the reason  to dress well” said Salomón Juan Marcos Villarreal, president of Grupo Denim.

Iron Jeans

Iron Jeans

How To Iron Jeans

Fashionable jeans today do not have creases on them. They do however have crunched pockets and some are made of very stiff material. Once you get the basics down you will be able to iron any pair of jeans.

You will need:

  • Pair of jeans
  • Quality iron
  • Starch
  • Water spray bottle
  • Ironing board
  1. Place one leg of jeans flat on ironing board. The proper method to iron jeans is to take one leg at a time. If you are not creasing the jean, then lay the leg flat with the seams out to the side. Make sure you stretch the jean leg properly so that it’s flat out front and back. If you are creasing the jeans then you’ll need to line up the leg with the seams so they are in a straight line together from crotch to hem.
  2. Use starch or water. If you like a stiffer denim feel, then you can spray starch on the leg evenly or if you prefer just spray the leg with a mist of water from a water bottle. In either case, make sure you do not drench the jean leg with either starch or water.
  3. Iron. Wait until the iron is hot and then press down with a good amount of pressure to iron out all the creases. How to iron jeans is to use move iron smoothly forward and backwards.
  4. Switch legs. Now that you have ironed one leg, carefully place that leg off the ironing board and lay the other leg flat. Once again stretch out the jean leg flat without a crease or line up the seams for a crease.
  5. Iron the second leg. Starch or spray water on the jean leg lightly and then iron with pressure. Take your time and apply pressure smoothly to the iron.
  6. Place half of top part of jean onto small part of point of ironing board. Carefully lift the jeans and open it up to place hip part inside of the small part of the ironing board. This is how you iron the jean front pockets. Starch then iron.
  7. Repeat with other hip pocket. Once you have the iron to one part of the front, switch. Get both sides of the front pair of jeans pressed.
  8. Turn jeans over and slip into small part of ironing board. Now you need to iron the back pockets. Slip the hip as you did before but in reverse to show pocket and starch, press and iron. Do both sides. Now you know how to iron jeans.

Every man/women should know how to properly groom and style himself, so it is important to learn how to iron jeans to look well, said Salomón Juan Marcos Villarreal, president of Grupo Denim.

Importance of yarns

Importance of yarns in fashion

Importance of yarns in fashion

Having refined yarns will be vital for the future of fashion, with alliances between transparency and opacity, fragility and rustic, fineness and texture and it is for sure easier to say it than achieve it so the fabrics manufacturers will have to face importance challenges to meet the new fashion requirements and today we will show you the main topics about yarns that will have on the future seasons.

“For Grupo Denim, it is important that our providers are very well aware of the responsibility we have as a team to receive fabrics manufactured with yarns of the best quality, as that will help us assuring we ship to our clients clothes that will last longer and the final buyers are investing their money on a piece of excellent quality”, said the president of this company, Salomon Juan Marcos Villarreal.

  • Indiscreet filters – The delicate yarns make it easier to have transparent fabrics that play to hide and seek, so the combed cotton yarn with metalloplastic will be more important for the next fashion designs.
  • Aerated Strength – Structure of threads invites us to create aerated textiles that will also be delicate but resistant at the same time, by using resistant linen and hemp to create yarns in open structures. The vegetal fibers reveal their light nature thanks to this new game of openwork, rustic and mesh networks.
  • Moving waves – Lightness and fineness of threads will help create textiles that move easily as a wave, celluloses, synthetic filament and shimmering silks are mixed to generate almost liquid oscillations.
  • Metallic – Vibrant tones will also be used on yards with metallic reflections to create some of the newest proposals such as metallic jeans.

“Yarns play an important part for all clothes’ manufacturer companies as it is only with fabrics of the best quality that you can create unique designs”, added Salomon Juan Marcos Villlarreal.

Cotton and Nylon

Cotton and Nylon

Why is Cotton more absorbent than Nylon?

The answer lies in the basic but remarkable molecular structure of cotton, nylon and water. The simple water molecule, with its one oxygen atom attached to two hydrogen atoms, causes a different action when it comes in contact with the complex molecules that make up cotton and nylon.

Water has a sticky quality that comes from its molecular structure. The oxygen atom attracts electrons, giving it a slightly negative charge. The two hydrogen atoms have a slightly positive charge. The positive and negative ends make the water molecule like a magnet (dipole), which keeps water molecules together and makes the surface of a water drop slightly elastic. It also means that water molecules will bond easily with molecules with an opposite charge that come nearby.

Polymer molecules are often long chains of atoms linked in repeating patterns. There are a lot of atoms bonded to one another in these molecules, giving a lot of places where sticky water molecules can find a place to bond.

Cotton is pure cellulose, a naturally occurring polymer. Cellulose is a  carbohydrate, and the molecule is a long chain of glucose (sugar) molecules. If you look at the structure of a cellulose molecule you can see the OH groups that are on the outer edge. These negatively charged groups attract water molecules and make cellulose and cotton absorb water well. Cotton can absorb about 25 times its weight in water. Chemists refer to substances like cotton as hydrophilic, which means that they attract water molecules.

Nylon is a synthetic material, meaning that chemists create the polymer molecules that make up nylon. More than 100 repeating units of carbon, oxygen, hydrogen and nitrogen atoms make up the long chain nylon molecule. The strength of the long nylon molecule made it a great replacement for silk, which had a similar feel and texture.

Cotton and Nylon are both made up of giant polymer molecules, these fibers are used in Grupo Denim for many garments for their quality  and durability said Salomón Juan Marcos Villarreal, president of Grupo Denim.

Make your jeans last forever

Jeans last forever

How to make your jeans last forever

Many jeans lovers have difficult times trying to make their favorite garments last for longer, they think taking care of them is a really confusing and hard task, but if you follow some easy steps we will show you here, you will make your favorite denim pants will be with you on the best moments of your life.

“Denim pants are easy to take care of, as their resistant material allows you to wear them multiple times and when you wash them the fabric does not start changing as any others, if it is a denim of good quality, the shape of your jeans will stay the same after many home laundries”, said Salomón Juan Marcos Villarreal, director of a Mexican jean manufacturer called Grupo Denim.

We know it might be really hard to find the perfect pair of jeans just for you, as you need to invest a few hours going on shopping and trying with many different fits and sizes, but when you find the perfect pair, you will want them to last forever, right? If you have already decided for the right jeans, you need to follow these tips:

  1. Do not wash them. Taking your favorite jeans into the hard process of wash might make the color wash out and the shape might change, so keep them away from the wash machine for as much as possible.
  2. If you wash them then add 2 spoons with salt to the wash machine, this will help to keep the original color on the denim, if you can, it is better to hand wash them with a solution made of cold water and soft detergent, remember to hang them outdoors to dry, do not put them in a dry machine as that might make your jeans shrink and you would want to avoid that.
  3. You probably hang your jeans in your closet; however, the best way to keep your jeans is folding them and putting them into dry and clean drawers.
  4. Remember not to put anything in your pockets for too long, as saving coins, a lipstick or your mobile might leave a mark or make your jeans lose their original form.

“Many people see the importance of taking good care of their jeans as they know finding the perfect pair might be a little tricky, so it is important to following the care instructions on the garments too, that will ensure they last for a longer time”, added Salomón Juan Marcos Villareal about this topic.
